- James Gunn described Polka-Dot Man as "the dumbest DC character of all time" whom he hoped to turn into a tragic character for the film. Unbeknownst to Gunn, David Dastmalchian has vitiligo and felt a personal connection to the character for reasons including being bullied and called "polka dots" as a child.
