Atlas is a legendary Titan from Greek Mythology who is the friend and partner of the time travelling superhero Samson.
Biography[]
All-Star Superman[]
Atlas and Samson saved Metropolis from Krull and his Subterranosauri henchmen from the center of the Earth before Superman and Lois (who temporarily had Superman's powers after she drank a special serum) could arrive to stop them. Atlas had defeated Krull's entire army and piled their unconscious bodies with his super strength while Samson had defeated Krull himself and thrown him into outer space. Superman, however, saved Krull from dying in space and sent him back to the center of the Earth.
When Atlas and Samson had met Lois, they were both obsessed with her and wanted to have her as a girlfriend. Samson gave Lois jewels that he and Samson had stolen from Ultra-Sphinx as a gift. However, Ultra-Sphinx appeared and threatened to kill Lois if Superman did not answer a riddle correctly. Superman answered the riddle correctly and Ultra-Sphinx did not kill Lois, instead he disappeared.
Atlas and Samson challenged Superman to a double arm wrestling match and if either Atlas or Samson won then Lois would be their girlfriend but if Atlas and Samson lost then they would be forced to return to their time period in the future. Atlas and Samson lost so they were forced to return to the future.
