In the first film, Bruce Wayne was around 30 years old and is not yet an experienced crime fighter. He suffers from insomnia and cannot delineate between his Batman persona and his "recluse rockstar" public identity as Bruce. His obsession with being Batman was also compared to a drug addiction.

- Hand To Hand Combat (Advanced): Bruce is an extremely skilled combatant due to intense training since his adolescence. He is able to easily fight and defeat multiple armed opponents at once with little issue. His fighting style is built around quick and brutal strikes that incapacitate opponents as fast as possible and includes moves from Karate, Judo, Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Eskrima, Silat, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Krav Maga, Boxing, Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do and Kickboxing.

- Before Robert Pattinson was cast, Nicholas Hoult was the runner-up for Bruce Wayne/Batman. Jack Reynor, Jack O'Connell, Alexander Ludwig, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Armie Hammer were considered for Bruce Wayne as well.
- Robert Pattinson wore both the Val Kilmer batsuit from Batman Forever for his auditioned and the George Clooney batsuit from Batman & Robin, which he said "looks cool, but feels like a nightmare. I can't move. I was sweating all the time."
