Dark Universe is a film in development that's part of the DC Extended Universe which features the team up of Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, and Sargon as well as Etrigan the Demon.

Production History

Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pacific Rim) will soon begin work on a DC Comics adaptation for Warner Bros. called Dark Universe, and it will bring together some of the most well-known supernatural characters from that comic book universe, including:

  • Deadman
  • The Spectre
  • Swamp Thing
  • John Constantine
  • Phantom Stranger
  • Zatanna Zatara
  • John Zatara
  • Sargon
  • Etrigan the Demon [1]

Trivia

  • Guillermo del Toro has been attached to the film since 2012 in development. He originally wanted the movie to be a standalone movie and was planning to direct the film but stepped down but did stay on board as a screen story and executive producer.
  • Doug Liman was attached to direct the film, but he left due to scheduling conflicts.
  • Anton Arcane is likely to be the villain, while searching for centuries ancient books of demons. Also Anton Arcane is responsible for turning Alec Holland into Swamp Thing from the start; similar to in Swamp Thing from 1982.
  • This will be a live-action film of Justice League Dark called Dark Universe.
  • The characters are rumored to be John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swampthing and Madame Xanadu.
  • Anton Arcane is likely to be the villain, while searching for centuries ancient books of demons. Also Anton Arcane is responsible for turning Alec Holland into Swamp Thing from the start; similar to in Swamp Thing from 1982.
  • Joseph Khan wanted to direct the film. He released test footage of Swamp Thing and concept art of Dan Stevens as John Constantine, Natalie Dormer as Zatanna Zatara and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Jason Blood/Etrigan the Demon and with Swamp Thing, Deadman as members and Floronic Man as the film's villain.
  • Andy Muschietti was considered by the studio to helm the project, but eventually turned down the offer in favor of It Chapter Two.
  • Gareth Evans was offered the role as director but passed on the project to worked on Deathstroke, a another DC Extended Universe film instead after his pitch got accepted by the studio.
