Midnight is an Egyptian Mau. The Mau is a symbol of the cat godess Bast, and Midnight is a "servant" for Bast and has the ability to resurrect people.

Midnight, or others like her, has resurrected women all over the world. Midnight saw that Patience Phillips was going to die, so she tested her to see if she was worthy of Bast's gift. The gift of new life comes with a twist, however, as it gives the person strange, cat-like abilities.
