Roman Sionis is a Gotham City mob boss who goes by the name of Black Mask, due to the black, skull-like mask that is grafted onto his head and face.
Biography[]
Batman: Under the Red Hood[]
Black Mask has a female assistant named Ms. Li, and is a crime lord in the midst of a massive turf war. Black Mask, Li, and a number of henchmen are kidnapped by the Joker and left bound and gagged in the back of a truck. The Joker attempts to kill all of the mobsters at once by covering them in gasoline and setting them ablaze, but they are ultimately rescued by the timely intervention of Batman. In the epilogue, he is awaiting trial after making bail.
Batman: Death in the Family[]
Depending on the viewers' choice, Black Mask can potentially die in two different options:
- "Robin Cheats Death" Option - Black Mask was killed by Hush after the latter shot his rocket launcher to his office, exploding it while getting burned, and falls to his explosive death after hitting a gas truck underneath.
- "Kill the Joker + Jason Escapes" Option - Black Mask was similarly killed, but by Jason's new Red Robin identity. The differences include his decapitation by the emergency door caused by Red Robin's rocket launcher.
- "Catch the Joker" Option - Black Mask was vertically bisected by the shattered glass caused by Red Hood's emitter projectile.
