Sol (Latin for Sun) is at the center of the Solar System that contains Earth. As a yellow sun, it gives Kryptonians superhuman abilities, when under their red sun, they possess no abilities. Most notably the Kryptonian, Kal-El, known on Earth as Superman, gets his abilities from Sol.
